Currently, the inHaus-CareLab consists of three different scenarios implemented in one room: SmartRoom, SmartCheckOut and SmartControl. Each approach is aimed at an independent and more convenient life at home later in life. Beyond that, the scenario SmartRoom offers additional features, which are particularly relevant for the nursing staff.

SmartRoom

The SmartRoom's central component is a touch-screen computer, which can be installed near the bed. This terminal creates an intelligent environment and can be used to operate various networking applications.

  • control pool of individual lights
  • central temperature control (including opeation of blinds, heating and air conditioning)
  • operation of all multimedia-features
  • activation of an automated nurse or emergency service call
  • opeation of all features and adjustments of the bed
  • search of important items via RFID-technology
  • additional features may be activated for certain users (e.g. nursing staff) only

SmartCheckOut

Based on RFID-technology, the system identifies items carried and compares those to a predefined contextdependent list in order to ensure that the resident does not leave anything essential behind (e.g. keys or wallet in general, or an umbrella if it is raining). If one or several items are missing, the application reminds the user via voice output or flashing items to take them along.

SmartControl

SmartControl is a context-sensitive remote control whose user interface changes depending on location. All applications can be operated using only four control keys.
At the moment, the SmartControl is a web-application that can be accessed using a smartphone (e.g. iPod touch).
